Diagnosis
The slow drip is caused by the accumulation of dissolved solids, sediment, and mineral scale within the filter's ion-exchange resin and physical filtration layers. As the filter captures contaminants, the pores become physically blocked, restricting water flow. This is a primary indicator that the filter has reached its maximum capacity and can no longer effectively process water.
How to Fix It
The only permanent solution for a clogged ZeroWater filter is a full replacement. Follow these steps to ensure a proper reset:
- Remove the reservoir from the pitcher base and discard the old filter.
- Thoroughly wash the reservoir and the pitcher base with mild soap and warm water to remove any residual mineral buildup or biofilm.
- Insert a fresh ZeroWater filter, ensuring it is seated firmly and flush against the bottom of the reservoir to prevent unfiltered water from bypassing the media.
- Fill the reservoir to the max line and allow the first cycle to complete.
If That Didn't Work
If a brand new filter is still dripping slowly, you likely have an airlock or a seating issue:
- Reset the Seal: Remove the filter and press it firmly into the socket again. If it isn't perfectly seated, air pockets can form, creating a vacuum that slows the flow.
- Prime the Filter: Submerge the filter in a bowl of water for a few minutes to displace trapped air within the resin beads before installing it.
- Check for Debris: Ensure there is no debris or slime buildup at the bottom of the reservoir where the filter connects, as this can obstruct the intake.

Never attempt to "clean" a ZeroWater filter by boiling it, scrubbing the mesh, or poking the internal media. Doing so will destroy the ion-exchange resin, allowing contaminants to pass directly into your drinking water.
