If the housing is cracked, water will bypass the resin entirely, leaving you with the taste of raw tap water mixed with new plastic. Replace the filter with a spare. Check for "Air Bubbles": If you see large bubbles rising in the reservoir during filtration, the filter is air-locked. Remove the filter, shake it vigorously for 10 seconds to dislodge air pockets, and re-insert it. Verify Water Temperature: If you used warm or hot water for the initial rinse, you may have prematurely degraded the ion-exchange resin. This can release a bitter, chemical taste. You will need to replace the filter with a fresh one and use only cold water. HEADS UP Temperature Warning: Never use water above 70°F (21°C) for priming or filtering. High temperatures can warp the plastic seal and damage the chemical structure of the resin beads. Avoid Soap on Filters: Never wash the filter cartridge itself with soap or detergents. This will contaminate the ion-exchange media and ruin the filter's ability to remove dissolved solids. Storage Tip: If the pitcher sits unused for more than 48 hours, the resin can dry out slightly. If you notice a return of the plastic taste, simply run one "flush" cycle (fill and dump) to re-hydrate the media. TDS Monitoring: Use the provided TDS meter to check the water. If the meter reads above 002 ppm immediately after a fresh filter installation, the filter is not seated correctly and water is bypassing the media.
