This creates a high-torque situation where the small electric motor continues to rotate against a physical obstruction. The grinding sound you hear is the internal plastic gears of the drive assembly slipping or straining under the pressure of the frozen mass. If left unchecked, this can strip the teeth off the drive gears or burn out the motor winding, rendering the unit permanently non-functional. You can confirm this by looking into the ice basket area; if you see ice shards clinging to the sides of the freezing chamber or a single massive block of ice instead of individual cubes, the mechanism is jammed.
How to Fix It
To resolve this mechanical jam and reset the harvest cycle, follow these precise steps:
- Immediately press the 'Power' button to stop the current cycle and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent motor burnout.
- Remove the ice basket and the scoop. Carefully tip the machine over or use a clean cloth to drain every drop of residual water from the reservoir to ensure no new ice forms during the process.
- Allow the unit to sit at room temperature for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours. Do not attempt to pry the ice out with a knife or screwdriver, as the evaporator pins are made of aluminum and are easily punctured or bent, which will cause a refrigerant leak.
