silonn ice maker making tiny, thin ice or slush instead of solid cubes, what gives?

— asked by Riley

DIAGNOSIS The evaporator plate isn't getting cold enough for a full freeze cycle. This is almost always caused by the ambient room temperature being too warm.

FIX Move the ice maker. It needs a room temperature below 77°F (25°C) to form solid cubes.

  1. Relocate it away from direct sunlight, ovens, or heating vents.
  2. Ensure there's at least 4 inches of open space on all sides, especially the back, for ventilation.
  3. Let it run for 2-3 full cycles in the cooler location. The cubes will normalize.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If your room is cool and cubes are still thin, the water pump might be introducing too much water per cycle. Try using slightly less water in the reservoir—fill only to the middle of the MIN and MAX lines—to see if it produces thicker cubes.

HEADS UP Never add external ice or frozen items to the basket to 'help it along.' This confuses the thermostat and can cause the evaporator to over-freeze, making the problem worse.
