Diagnosis: Some warmth is normal. Excessive heat triggers the electronic protection system to prevent damage.
Evaluation and mitigation steps:
- Check the battery's charge indicator. Use a different ONE+ 18V Lithium+ battery for comparison.
- Ensure you are not overloading the drill (e.g., forcing a large bit, mixing thick material).
- Allow the drill and battery to cool for 20-30 minutes between extended tasks.
- Store batteries at room temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
If heat is excessive (too hot to touch comfortably):
- Stop using the battery immediately.
- Remove it from the drill and place it on a non-flammable surface to cool.
- Do not charge a hot battery.
- Once cool, inspect for swelling or damage. Do not use a swollen battery.
Heads up: The IntelliCell™ technology includes protection against excessive heat. Consistent overheating with normal use indicates a failing battery. Using a damaged or non-CE-marked battery voids support and is a safety risk.
