Diagnosis
The Honda EU2200i is designed for parallel operation, but it is not universally compatible with every older EU2000i. Because the internal electronics and output regulations evolved over time, pairing an incompatible older unit with a newer EU2200i can cause a synchronization failure, potentially damaging the inverter boards of both machines. To determine if your units can be linked, you must verify the serial number of your older EU2000i.
How to Fix It
To safely double your power output, follow these specific compatibility and setup steps:
- Check Serial Numbers: Confirm your older EU2000i falls within these compatible ranges: EAAJ-2017305 and later or EACT-1000001 and later. If your serial number is earlier than these, the units cannot be paired.
- Use Genuine Hardware: Use only the official Honda Parallel Operation Cable kit. Third-party cables often lack the necessary safety tolerances and can cause electrical shorts.
- Preparation: Ensure both generators are turned off and the fuel valves are closed before connecting.
- Connection: Plug the parallel cable into the designated parallel operation outlets on both the EU2200i and the EU2000i.
- Startup: Start both units and allow them to warm up. Once stable, you can draw power from the parallel outlets on the "master" unit.
If That Didn't Work
If your serial number is too old for pairing, you cannot link them physically. Your best alternative is to run the generators independently. Use the EU2200i for your high-draw appliances (like a microwave or coffee maker) and use the older EU2000i for low-draw electronics (like phone chargers or LED lights). Do not attempt to "daisy chain" extension cords between the two units, as this will not increase the wattage of a single circuit and may trip the breakers.

Never attempt to pair these generators with a unit from another brand or a non-inverter model. Doing so will result in immediate and permanent electronic failure of the inverter modules.
