Diagnosis
E16 means the washer can't drain the water out, or it's draining too slowly. The drain pump is either blocked, the drain hose is kinked/clogged, or the pump itself has failed.
How to Fix It
First, check the drain hose. Make sure it's not bent or kinked behind the machine and that it's inserted properly into the standpipe or sink (not pushed in more than 8-10 inches, or it can create a siphon). Then, clean the pump filter. Turn off and unplug the machine. Open the small service panel on the front lower right corner. Place a shallow pan and towels underneath. Unscrew the filter cap slowly—water will gush out. Reach in and clear any debris (lint, coins, hair).
If That Didn't Work
If the filter was clear and the hose path is good, the drain pump might be obstructed or dead. With the machine unplugged, you can sometimes manually check the pump impeller (accessible after removing the filter) for free rotation. If it's seized or you hear a humming noise when it should be draining, the pump assembly likely needs replacement.
Heads Up
Always unplug the washer before accessing the pump filter. And when you screw that filter cap back in, hand-tighten it firmly—overtightening can crack the plastic housing, which is a separate and annoying repair.
