how do i clean all the sawdust out of the head where the blade goes? it's jammed in there.

— asked by Alex

DIAGNOSIS Compacted debris in the blade mount interferes with blade seating and cooling.

FIX Remove the blade bolt and any washers. Use a stiff, dry parts brush (like a clean paintbrush) to dislodge debris. For stubborn gunk, use a wooden or plastic pick. Never use metal tools that can scratch the mating surfaces.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK For resin or hardened dust, apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol to soften it. Wait a minute, then brush again. Do not use solvents like acetone or gasoline.

HEADS UP Never use compressed air to blow debris into the tool. You will force dust into the motor bearings and switch, causing premature failure.
