Diagnosis
The LG S95QR features a high-density acoustic fabric grille designed to be acoustically transparent while protecting the internal drivers. Because this fabric is woven with synthetic fibers and held in place by a series of small, high-strength neodymium magnets, it naturally attracts static electricity. This static pull draws in airborne particulates, pet dander, and household dust, which settle into the weave of the fabric. Over time, these particles bond with the fibers. If you attempt to wipe the grille while it is attached to the soundbar, you risk pushing the dust deeper into the weave or accidentally shifting the magnetic alignment, which can cause the grille to sit unevenly. Furthermore, applying liquid cleaners directly to the fabric can cause "water spotting" or permanent staining of the grey/black dye, and high-suction vacuums can stretch the delicate fabric, creating permanent ripples or "bubbles" in the appearance.
How to Fix It
To safely clean the S95QR grille without compromising the fabric integrity or the magnetic seating, follow this precise sequence:
- Power down the unit and disconnect the power cable to avoid any static discharge during the cleaning process.
- Grasp the bottom edge of the fabric grille at the far left and right corners. Gently pull the fabric away from the chassis; the magnetic bond will break with a light pop. Lift the grille entirely off the unit and lay it flat on a clean, lint-free surface (like a fresh towel).
- Using a soft-bristled, clean paintbrush (natural bristles are best) or a high-quality makeup brush, lightly flick the dust away from the center of the fabric toward the edges. Work in short, unidirectional strokes to avoid rubbing the dust deeper into the weave.
- If you have a handheld vacuum with a soft-brush attachment, hold the vacuum nozzle 2-3 inches above the fabric. Do not let the plastic nozzle touch the fabric; use the suction to pull the loosened dust upward.
- Once the loose debris is removed, use a piece of low-tack painter's tape or a lint roller. Gently press the adhesive onto the fabric and lift quickly. Do not scrub the tape back and forth.
- Carefully align the grille back onto the soundbar. Ensure the edges are flush before letting the magnets snap the fabric back into place.
If That Didn't Work
- For stubborn, oily stains or ground-in grime, use a specialized fabric cleaner or a mixture of distilled water and one drop of mild dish soap. Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and wring it out until it is barely damp (nearly dry). Dab the stained area gently—do not rub—to lift the stain. Immediately follow with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent water rings.
- If the fabric has developed a "fuzzy" texture from pilling, use a fabric shaver or a manual lint remover. Use extreme caution and a very light touch, as the acoustic fabric is thinner than clothing fabric and can be easily punctured.
- For deep-seated dust that won't budge, use a can of compressed air. Hold the can 6 inches away and spray in short bursts from the inside of the grille (the side facing the drivers) outward. This pushes the dust through the weave to the surface where it can be brushed away.
- If the magnets are not seating the grille flush after cleaning, check the inner rim of the soundbar chassis for any debris or hair that may have accumulated in the gap. Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean the magnetic contact points.
Heads Up
- Avoid using bleach, acetone, or harsh chemical solvents, as these will dissolve the synthetic fibers of the S95QR grille and cause permanent discoloration.
- Never use a steam cleaner on the fabric; the high heat can warp the plastic frame supporting the fabric and weaken the magnetic adhesive.
- To reduce future dust accumulation, place the soundbar away from direct air vents or high-traffic areas where pet hair is most prevalent.
- Always ensure the fabric is 100% dry before snapping it back onto the magnets to prevent moisture from being trapped against the speaker drivers.
