Diagnosis
The LG S95QR utilizes a dedicated 2.4GHz wireless proprietary link to communicate between the main soundbar unit and the subwoofer. When the subwoofer displays a power light (typically a solid green or red LED) but produces no audio, it indicates a "handshake failure." While the subwoofer hardware is receiving power, the internal amplifier is not receiving the digital audio stream from the soundbar, resulting in total silence—no pops, hums, or low-frequency rumble. This disconnect usually occurs due to wireless interference from nearby 2.4GHz devices (like microwave ovens or older Wi-Fi routers) or a firmware glitch during a power surge that caused the unique pairing ID to be dropped. To confirm this is a pairing issue and not a hardware failure, check the LED on the back of the subwoofer; if it is blinking or solid red while the soundbar is on, the wireless link is severed.
How to Fix It
To manually re-establish the wireless handshake between the LG S95QR soundbar and the subwoofer, follow this precise sequence:
- Power on the LG S95QR soundbar using the remote. Ensure the volume is set to a moderate level (around 20) so you can hear the confirmation tone.
- Locate the ID SET button on the rear panel of the subwoofer. It is a small, recessed button located near the power input.
- Using a paperclip or a thin pen, press and hold the ID SET button for approximately 5 seconds.
- Release the button when the LED indicator on the back of the subwoofer begins to blink rapidly in red. This puts the subwoofer into "Pairing Mode."
- On the soundbar remote, press and hold the Volume Down (-)** and Mute buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The soundbar display will show "ID SET" or a similar pairing notification.
- Wait for the subwoofer LED to turn solid green. You will hear a loud "thump" or a test tone from the subwoofer, confirming the link is restored.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Hard Power Cycle: Unplug both the soundbar and the subwoofer from the wall outlets. Wait exactly 60 seconds to allow the capacitors to discharge fully. Plug the subwoofer in first, then the soundbar. This forces the system to re-scan for available wireless peripherals upon boot.
- Clear Wireless Interference: Move the subwoofer at least 3 feet away from your Wi-Fi router or any wireless gaming consoles. If the subwoofer is placed directly against a wall that has a router on the other side, the signal can be drowned out by "noise," preventing the handshake from completing.
- Factory Reset the Soundbar: While the soundbar is powered on, press and hold the Volume Down (-) and Function buttons on the physical unit (not the remote) for 5 seconds until "RESET" appears on the display. Once the unit reboots, attempt the ID SET process again.
- Check for Firmware Mismatch: Use the LG Soundbar App on your smartphone to check for a firmware update. If the soundbar updated its OS but the subwoofer did not, the communication protocols may be mismatched, causing the subwoofer to be ignored by the main unit.
Heads Up
- Placement Warning: Avoid placing the subwoofer inside a closed wooden cabinet or directly behind a metal appliance. The wireless signal for the S95QR is sensitive to metal shielding, which can cause intermittent audio dropouts.
- Power Stability: Always plug the subwoofer into a grounded wall outlet. Using a low-quality power strip can sometimes cause "dirty power" that interferes with the wireless receiver's stability.
- Avoid Physical Impact: The S95QR subwoofer uses a high-excursion driver; ensure there is at least 4-6 inches of clearance between the back of the sub and the wall to prevent acoustic loading that can mimic a "dead" speaker.
