how do i clean the filter on this ge portable ac, i can't figure out how to get to it

DIAGNOSIS The air filter is accessed from the front grille. It is a washable foam filter that must be cleaned every two weeks of operation to maintain airflow and cooling performance.

FIX Unplug the unit. Locate the two finger slots on the top of the front panel. Pull firmly on these slots to release the plastic clips and swing the entire front grille open. The rectangular foam filter is mounted just inside. Lift it straight out of its frame. Rinse the filter under lukewarm tap water. Gently squeeze out dirt—do not wring or twist. Let it air dry completely for 24 hours before reinstalling. Snap the filter back into place and close the grille until it clicks.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the grille does not open, check for a securing screw at the bottom center. Some models have one. Remove it with a Phillips head screwdriver first, then use the finger slots.

HEADS UP Never operate the unit without the filter installed. It protects the evaporator coil from dust. A damp filter will restrict airflow and can cause the unit to freeze up or trigger overheat errors.
