Diagnosis
The LG LP1419IVSM features a high-density nylon mesh filter designed to capture airborne particulates before they hit the evaporator coils. Unlike many budget portable units that have a simple slide-out tray, this Dual Inverter model integrates the filter behind the main chassis facade to maximize airflow efficiency. Over time, a layer of gray-black dust and pet dander accumulates on the mesh, restricting airflow. When this happens, the unit may trigger a "CK" (Clean Filter) code on the LED display or you will notice a significant drop in cooling capacity and an increase in noise as the inverter compressor works harder to pull air through the blockage. To confirm the filter is the culprit, place a single sheet of tissue paper against the front intake grille while the unit is running on "High" fan speed. If the paper is not sucked firmly against the grille or fluttery, the filter is likely clogged. Because there is no external pull tab, users often mistake the front plastic casing for a solid wall, leading to months of neglected maintenance which can eventually lead to evaporator coil icing.
How to Fix It
Follow these exact steps to access and sanitize the filtration system:
- Power down the unit completely and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet to ensure the fan blade is stationary.
- Locate the two recessed plastic pressure tabs located at the top edge of the front decorative bezel, approximately 2 inches to the left and right of the digital display panel.
- Apply firm, simultaneous pressure to these tabs while pulling the top edge of the front panel toward you. The panel does not slide; it pivots outward from the top.
- Once the top is cleared, lift the entire front plastic shroud upward and away from the chassis. Set this aside on a flat surface to avoid scratching the glossy finish.
- Identify the large, rectangular gray mesh filter. It is held in place by tension. Grasp the filter by the center and gently pull it straight out toward you.
- Rinse the filter under lukewarm running water. Do not use a high-pressure power washer, as this can tear the nylon mesh. If the filter is heavily soiled, apply a small amount of mild dish soap and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub in a circular motion.
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
- Shake off excess water and lean the filter against a wall to air dry completely. Do not put the filter in a dryer or use a heat gun, as the plastic frame will warp.
- Slide the dry filter back into the chassis, ensuring the edges are flush and not bunched.
- Snap the front panel back into place, starting from the bottom hooks and clicking the top tabs into position.
If That Didn't Work
- If the front panel feels "stuck" or refuses to budge, check for any external adhesive or stickers you may have applied to the chassis that are blocking the release tabs. Use a plastic pry tool or a credit card to gently nudge the bezel if the tabs are recessed too deeply for your fingers.
- If the air smells musty even after cleaning the filter, the dust has likely bypassed the mesh and settled on the evaporator coils. Use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to gently suck debris off the aluminum fins behind where the filter sits. Be extremely careful not to bend the fins.
- If the "CK" light remains on after cleaning and reassembling, the unit requires a manual reset. Press and hold the "Filter Reset" button (or the specific function button indicated on your control panel for filter resets) for 3 to 5 seconds until the indicator light disappears.
- If the filter mesh is torn or has holes, cleaning will not stop dust from entering the machine. You will need to order a replacement filter specific to the LP1419 series to prevent permanent damage to the Dual Inverter compressor.

- Clean the filter every 2 weeks during peak summer usage; ignoring this will void the efficiency ratings of the Dual Inverter technology and increase your electricity bill.
