Diagnosis
The LG LP1419IVSM frequently fails to connect due to "band steering" on modern routers, where the phone and AC cannot agree on a frequency. Most "infinite spinning" errors are caused by the phone automatically switching back to mobile data or a 5GHz band when it detects the AC's temporary setup network lacks internet access.
How to Fix It
Follow these specific steps to force a successful handshake:
- Disable Mobile Data: Turn off cellular data in your phone settings. This prevents the phone from jumping away from the AC's temporary Wi-Fi signal.
- Verify 2.4GHz: Ensure you are connecting to a 2.4GHz network. If your router uses a single name for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz (Smart Connect), the AC may struggle to handshake.
- Manual Connection: When the ThinQ app prompts you, go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and manually connect to the network named
LG_AC_XXXX. Once connected, return to the app. - Permissions: Ensure "Location Services" and "Nearby Devices" permissions are enabled for the ThinQ app; without these, the app cannot "see" the AC unit.
If That Didn't Work
- Hard Reset: Perform a network reset by holding the Wi-Fi button on the control panel (or remote) for 5-10 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator flashes rapidly.
- Router Workaround: If you have a mesh system (like Eero or Google Nest), create a temporary "Guest Network" locked strictly to 2.4GHz. Connect the AC to this guest network first.
- Power Cycle: Unplug the AC from the wall for 60 seconds to clear the internal cache of the Wi-Fi module before attempting the setup again.
Heads Up
Avoid using special characters (like ! or @) in your Wi-Fi password, as some LG firmware versions struggle to parse non-alphanumeric characters during the initial pairing phase.
