The Overhead Door Destiny 1200 utilizes a non-volatile memory chip to store unique radio frequency (RF) identifiers for every remote and wireless keypad paired to the unit. When a remote is lost or stolen, the opener continues to recognize that specific signal code, creating a security vulnerability. Because the Destiny 1200 does not allow you to delete individual remotes one by one, the only way to remove a specific device is to perform a global "Clear Memory" command. This process wipes the internal registry of all stored accessory codes. It is important to understand that this is a radio-frequency reset only; it does not affect your "Up" and "Down" travel limits, your force settings, or your door closure timing. You can confirm the memory is cleared if you attempt to trigger the door with a previously paired remote and the motor unit fails to respond or the indicator light does not flash.
How to Fix It
To completely purge the memory of all remotes and wireless keypads on your Destiny 1200, follow these exact steps:
- Locate the motor unit assembly mounted to your ceiling. Remove the plastic light cover or look through the side vents to find the "Learn" button. This is typically a small, square, colored button (often red, orange, or green) located near the antenna wire.
- Ensure the garage door is closed and the unit is powered on.
- Press and hold the "Learn" button firmly. Do not just tap it; you must maintain constant pressure.
- Continue holding the button for approximately 6 to 10 seconds. Watch the LED indicator light located immediately adjacent to the button.
- The LED will initially light up, then it will turn off completely, and finally, it will flash or glow steadily again. Once the light sequence completes and the LED stabilizes, release the button immediately.
- To verify the reset, press the button on one of your existing remotes. The motor should not activate, confirming that the memory has been successfully wiped.
- To re-pair your remaining remotes, press the "Learn" button once (the LED will glow for 30 seconds), then press the button on the remote you wish to program. The motor unit will click or the lights will flash to confirm the new pairing.
If That Didn't Work
- Power Cycle the Logic Board: If the Learn button seems unresponsive, disconnect the power cord from the 120V outlet for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and attempt the hold-down sequence again. This clears any temporary glitches in the logic board's volatile memory.
- Check for Stuck Buttons: Inspect the wall-mounted control panel. If the "Lock" button is engaged or if the wall button is physically stuck in the "down" position, the logic board may ignore RF programming commands. Ensure the Lock feature is disabled.
- Inspect the Antenna Wire: If you are trying to re-pair remotes after the wipe and they aren't connecting, ensure the small 1/4" antenna wire hanging from the motor unit is not tucked inside the metal chassis or pinched against the ceiling. It should hang freely to receive the signal.
- Replace the Logic Board: If holding the Learn button for 10 seconds produces no change in the LED behavior and remotes still work, the onboard memory chip may be failing or the button switch itself has a broken solder joint. In this case, the entire logic board assembly must be replaced.
Heads Up
- Keypad Reset: Remember that clearing the remotes also erases your wireless external keypad. You will need to stand directly under the motor unit to re-program the keypad, as the signal range during the "Learn" window can be shorter than normal operation.
- Avoid Over-Pressing: Do not hold the Learn button for more than 15 seconds. On some firmware versions of the Destiny series, holding the button for an excessive amount of time can trigger a different diagnostic mode or factory default that may require you to re-set your travel limits.
- Battery Maintenance: Since you are starting fresh, this is the ideal time to replace the CR2032 or 12V batteries in your remotes to ensure a strong signal during the re-pairing process.
