Diagnosis
Unlike traditional cartridge printers, the EcoTank ET-2400 requires minimal scheduled cleaning because its tank system prevents air exposure that dries out ink. The primary need for cleaning arises from infrequent use, which can lead to ink drying in the printhead nozzles, or from using non-genuine or poor-quality ink, which can cause clogs and inconsistent prints.
How to Fix It
Proactive maintenance is key. Follow these steps:
- Print Regularly: Print at least a color test page or a few paragraphs of text every 1-2 weeks to keep ink flowing through the nozzles.
- Use Printer Head Cleaning Utility: If you notice streaks, missing lines, or faded colors, run the built-in Head Cleaning utility via the printer's control panel or Epson Smart Panel app. Do this only when needed.
- Use Only Genuine Epson 522 Series Ink: Refill only with Epson 522 ink to prevent chemical imbalances and clogs that void the warranty.
- Store Properly: Keep the printer in a stable environment (59°F to 90°F, 5% to 85% humidity) away from direct sunlight, dust, and condensation.
If That Didn't Work
If print quality issues persist after 2-3 head cleanings:
- Run the Nozzle Check pattern from the utility menu to identify which colors are clogged.
- Perform a Powerful Cleaning cycle (found in the same utility menu). This uses more ink but can clear stubborn clogs. Use it sparingly.
- For persistent clogs from dried ink, you may need to let the printer sit with the power on for several hours after a cleaning cycle to allow ink to rehydrate the printhead.
Heads Up
Avoid third-party "cleaning solutions" or injecting anything into the tanks. Excessive head cleaning wastes significant ink. If printhead issues are not resolved by these steps and you use genuine ink, contact Epson Support as the printhead may need professional service.
