If your router uses "Smart Connect" or "Band Steering" (where 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz share the same SSID), the thermostat often attempts to handshake with the 5 GHz band, fails, and enters a loop because it cannot negotiate a downgrade to 2.4 GHz automatically. Furthermore, this specific model is sensitive to WPA3 security protocols. If your router is set to "WPA3 Only," the Sensi Touch 2 will fail to authenticate even if the frequency is correct. You can confirm this by checking the "Network" status on the thermostat screen; if it shows "Connecting..." for more than 60 seconds before returning to the home screen or showing a "Connection Failed" alert, the issue is likely a band mismatch or a security protocol conflict rather than a hardware failure.
How to Fix It
To resolve the connection loop, you must isolate the 2.4 GHz band and ensure the security settings are compatible.

- Navigate to the **Wireless Settings** or **Advanced Wi-Fi** tab.

- Check the **Wireless Security** setting. Change it from "WPA3" to **"WPA2-PSK (AES)"**. This is the gold standard for the Sensi Touch 2.
- Save the settings and reboot your router.
- On the Sensi Touch 2 screen, tap the **Menu** icon, select **Wi-Fi Settings**, and then tap **Forget Network** to clear any cached failed attempts.
- Select the newly renamed "HomeWifi_2.4" network and enter your password.
- Wait for the "Connected" checkmark to appear before exiting the menu.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Hard Power Cycle: Remove the thermostat faceplate from the wall bracket for exactly 30 seconds. This clears the temporary cache of the Wi-Fi module and forces a fresh DHCP request when plugged back in.
- Check DHCP IP Pool: If your router has a limited IP address range (DHCP pool), the thermostat may be failing to acquire an IP. Ensure your router is set to "Automatic" or has at least 10 free IP addresses available in the subnet.
- Test with a Mobile Hotspot: To rule out a hardware defect in the thermostat, enable a 2.4 GHz hotspot on your smartphone. If the Sensi connects to the phone instantly, the issue is 100% rooted in your router's firewall or frequency settings.
- Disable MAC Filtering: Check if your router has "MAC Address Filtering" enabled. If it does, the router will reject the Sensi Touch 2 unless you manually add the thermostat's MAC address (found in the Wi-Fi settings menu) to the allowed list.
