Diagnosis
The soundbar's input isn't set correctly, or the console's audio format is incompatible. The soundbar doesn't auto-switch from the TV (ARC) input to other HDMI inputs.
How to Fix It
Manually select the correct input on the soundbar.
1. Ensure your console is connected to the soundbar's HDMI IN port, and the soundbar's HDMI OUT goes to the TV.
2. Use the Yamaha remote (or the button on the soundbar). Press 'HDMI' to cycle to the 'HDMI 1' input. The front display will show it.
3. On your PlayStation, go to Settings > Sound > Audio Output and set 'Output Device' to 'HDMI Device'. For Switch, go to System Settings > TV Output and ensure 'TV Sound' is set to 'Surround Sound'.
4. Most importantly, set the console's audio format to PCM (Linear PCM for PS5). The SR-B40A has issues with some Dolby Digital signals from game consoles.
If That Didn't Work
The HDMI cable might be faulty or not high-speed. Try a different, certified High-Speed HDMI cable for the connection between the console and the soundbar.
Heads Up
When a console is plugged into the soundbar's HDMI IN, you must use the soundbar's input selection, not the TV's. The TV will only show video from that console, all audio is routed through the soundbar.
