Yeah, this is a common way to kill a saw. You cannot use regular, unmixed gasoline. This is a 2-cycle engine.
The correct fuel is a mix of fresh, high-octane unleaded gasoline and a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil. The exact mix ratio is critical—it's 50:1. That means 50 parts gas to 1 part oil. Use a proper mixing container to get it exact; eyeballing it will lead to poor performance or engine damage.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If you've already run straight gas, you've likely caused internal damage. You'll need to drain the entire fuel system, clean or replace the spark plug, and may need to have the carburetor serviced. If it ran and then died, the piston could be scored.
HEADS UP: Never use fuel older than 30 days, and never use automotive oil or oil labeled for 4-cycle engines. Stale or wrong fuel is the #1 cause of starting problems.
