Routine maintenance question. The fabric sleeve is a washable pre-filter designed to capture large particles and hair.
How to Fix It
Yes, you can and should wash it. Remove the front cover and slide the fabric sleeve off the main filter. Wash it by hand or in a washing machine on a gentle, cold water cycle. Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Rinse thoroughly. Air dry it completely—do not use a dryer. Reinstall only when fully dry.
If That Didn't Work
If the fabric is torn, frayed, or the elastic is shot after many washes, it must be replaced. A damaged sleeve will not stay taut and causes noise/performance issues.
Heads Up
Wash the fabric pre-filter separately. Do not wash it with the main particle filter—the main filter is NOT washable and will be destroyed.
