Once moisture reaches the internal trigger assembly or the carbon brushes of the motor, it creates an immediate risk of a short circuit. Water is highly conductive, especially when mixed with the metallic dust and debris typically found inside a drill's motor housing. This moisture can bridge electrical connections that should remain separate, causing the motor to "stutter," blow internal fuses, or permanently burn out the switch. How to Fix It
If you have already exposed your DCD771C2 to moisture, do not attempt to pull the trigger to "test" it, as this can send current through wet components and cause a permanent short. Follow these steps to recover the tool:

- If you see visible rust on the chuck or the spindle, apply a small amount of penetrating oil (like WD-40 Specialist) to the chuck threads and rotate it manually several times to displace remaining moisture and prevent the chuck from seizing.
