it’s making a loud grinding or buzzing noise, mostly during the drain part of the cycle.

DIAGNOSIS A grinding noise during draining is classic for something hard—a piece of bone, glass, or a cherry pit—making its way into the drain pump impeller.

FIX Immediately stop the cycle. You'll need to access the drain pump. Remove the lower filter assembly. Then, lying on your back under the open door, you'll see the drain pump cover (a round plastic cover) at the front bottom of the tub. Remove the cover (may have screws or a quarter-turn lock) and feel inside the impeller area for the foreign object. Remove it.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the noise persists after clearing the impeller, the pump motor bearings might be worn out or the impeller itself could be cracked. That means replacing the entire drain pump assembly.

HEADS UP That noise is the sound of metal or hard plastic chewing itself up. Letting it continue will almost certainly destroy the pump, leading to a full replacement instead of a simple debris removal.
