my avid power drill keeps stopping in the middle of driving a screw, feels like it's slipping

Yeah, this one's common. Your AUTOSENSE clutch is disengaging. It's designed to stop when it senses the screw is set to prevent stripping. First, release the trigger completely and pull it again to reactivate the AUTOSENSE. If it keeps happening, check you're not accidentally in drill mode. The collar near the chuck should be turned to the screwdriver icon, not the drill bit icon. The tool must be in screwdriver mode for AUTOSENSE to work.

If that didn't work, you might not be applying enough forward pressure. The clutch needs you to push into the work. Try again and apply a substantial amount of pressure to the back of the tool. If it's still slipping with good pressure, the clutch mechanism itself might be worn or faulty.

Heads up: Don't force the tool. Using the correct mode and letting the clutch do its job prevents damage to the tool, the screw, and your workpiece.
