The "ADD WATER" indicator on the Crzoe Countertop Ice Maker is triggered by a magnetic float sensor located at the bottom of the water reservoir. This sensor consists of a plastic float containing a magnet that rises and falls with the water level; when the float drops below a specific threshold, it triggers the alert and halts the cooling cycle to prevent the pump from running dry. If the light remains on despite a full tank, the float is likely stuck in the "down" position due to mineral buildup (limescale) or a physical obstruction, preventing the magnet from triggering the sensor. Another common cause is the accumulation of air bubbles or a "vapor lock" within the internal pump system, which prevents water from reaching the evaporator plate. In some cases, if the unit was tilted during transport or cleaning, the float may have become dislodged from its guide rail, causing it to sit crookedly and fail to register the water level. You can confirm a sensor failure by gently nudging the float with a clean straw or chopstick; if the light flickers or turns off momentarily, the issue is mechanical friction rather than an electrical failure.
How to Fix It
To resolve the sensor error and restore ice production, follow these precise steps to clean the reservoir and reset the sensor mechanism:
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and remove the ice basket to gain full access to the reservoir.
- Drain all remaining water from the tank. Use a clean, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe away any slime or sediment from the bottom of the tank, specifically around the edges of the float sensor.
- Locate the plastic float (the small white cylinder) at the bottom of the reservoir. Gently push it up and down several times using a non-metallic object to ensure it moves freely and isn't stuck against the wall of the tank.
- Prepare a descaling solution: Mix one part white distilled vinegar with three parts warm water. Fill the reservoir to the "MAX" line with this mixture.
- Let the solution sit for 30 minutes. This dissolves calcium carbonate deposits that often "glue" the float sensor in place.
- Drain the vinegar solution and rinse the tank three times with fresh, filtered water to remove any acidic residue.
- Plug the unit back in and press the "Power" button. Wait 2-3 minutes for the system to calibrate the water level before starting the first cycle.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Hard System Reset. Unplug the unit and leave it disconnected for at least 30 minutes. While unplugged, open the lid and gently shake the unit side-to-side to dislodge any trapped air bubbles in the pump line. This clears the "vapor lock" that can trick the control board into thinking the water isn't flowing.
- Check for Pump Cavitation. If you hear a loud humming or grinding sound but the "ADD WATER" light stays on, the pump may be struggling to prime. Fill the reservoir to the absolute maximum line and tilt the machine forward by about 5 degrees for ten seconds to force water into the intake valve.
- Inspect the Water Inlet Filter. If your specific Crzoe model has a removable filter cartridge, remove it and attempt to run the machine without the filter. A clogged filter can restrict flow enough that the sensor detects a pressure drop, triggering the "ADD WATER" warning even if the tank is visually full.
- Verify Voltage Stability. Ensure the unit is plugged directly into a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or extension cord. Low voltage can cause the sensor's magnetic relay to malfunction or fail to trigger the signal to the motherboard.

- Avoid using distilled water exclusively. The sensors in these units often require a small amount of mineral conductivity to function accurately; using 100% distilled water can occasionally lead to erratic sensor readings.
- Clean the reservoir with a vinegar solution every 2-4 weeks. Limescale buildup is the primary cause of float sensor failure and will eventually lead to permanent hardware malfunction if ignored.
- Never use abrasive scrubbers or steel wool inside the water reservoir, as scratches in the plastic can trap bacteria and create friction points that snag the float sensor.
- Ensure the unit is placed on a completely level surface. A tilt of even 3-5 degrees can cause the float to lean against the side of the tank, triggering a false "low water" alert.
