DIAGNOSIS The laser distance sensor on top is likely blocked, obstructed, or has failed. It can't see the room to build a map or navigate, so it just spins.
FIX First, power it off. Now, look at the clear plastic cylinder on top—that's the lidar turret. Wipe it gently with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any dust or smudges. Check around the base of the turret for hair or debris that might be jamming its rotation. Clear anything you find. Power it back on in an open space and see if it initializes properly.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The turret mechanism itself might have a hardware fault. Listen closely when it starts up—you should hear a faint whir as it spins. If it's silent or makes a grinding noise, the motor or gears are likely damaged and you'll need to contact Ecovacs support for a repair.
HEADS UP Never place the vacuum under low furniture like a bed or couch during its first mapping run. It can get the lidar turret physically stuck, which can cause this error or even break the mechanism.
