my dell u2722d monitor keeps changing brightness by itself, how do i stop it?

Auto Mode is applying different Preset Modes based on your active applications, or the PowerNap energy-saving feature is active.

  • Check Auto Mode: Open Dell Display Manager. On the Basic tab, switch from Auto Mode to Manual Mode. This lets you manually select and lock a single Preset Mode.
  • Disable PowerNap: Go to the Options tab. Disable any PowerNap settings that lower brightness when the screensaver activates.
  • Disable display matrix control: If multiple Dell monitors are connected, a setting called 'Enable display matrix control' applies brightness/contrast/color presets to all monitors. Uncheck this if you want to control them individually.

If that didn't work: A Preset Mode you've assigned to an application in Auto Mode may have a different brightness setting. Review your Auto Mode task list and the Preset Modes assigned to each application.

Heads up: You can adjust brightness and contrast directly from the Basic tab in DDM, regardless of the current mode.
