my devices keep switching to the wrong eero node and getting slow speeds, how do i force them to connect to the closest one?

DIAGNOS Client steering is failing. Your device is sticky to a farther, weaker node. The eero's band steering and client steering features are not overriding your device's saved preference.

FIX Enable eero Labs features. In the eero app, go to Discover > eero Labs. Ensure 'Band Steering' and 'Client Steering' are both ON. This encourages devices to use the best band and node. For a single problematic device, forget the Wi-Fi network on the device and reconnect.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Poor placement causes this. Nodes should be within 40-50 feet of each other, with a clear line of sight. Move the problem node closer to the gateway. Physical obstructions like metal ducts or thick masonry walls degrade the mesh signal, confusing steering logic.

HEADS UP You cannot manually assign a device to a specific eero node. The eero system manages all connections centrally. Client steering is a request, not a command. Older devices (IoT, some Android) often ignore it.
