This happens when the machine's logic board determines there is insufficient water to fill the evaporator pins for the next freezing cycle. While this often means the reservoir is simply empty, it can also be triggered by a "false negative" where water is present, but the sensor cannot detect it. This failure typically stems from one of three root causes: a misaligned water reservoir that isn't making a proper seal with the intake, a stuck float switch (the small plastic piece that rises and falls with the water level), or a blockage of mineral scale/slime in the intake valve. If the float switch is stuck in the "down" position due to calcium buildup, the machine will beep and flash E1 even if the tank is overflowing. You can confirm this by gently nudging the float sensor with a sanitized cotton swab; if the error clears momentarily, the sensor is the culprit.
How to Fix It
To resolve the E1 error and stop the beeping, follow these precise steps to reset the sensor and clear the intake path:
- Power down the unit immediately by pressing the "On/Off" button and unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet to discharge the capacitors.
- Remove the ice basket and completely slide out the water reservoir. Inspect the bottom of the reservoir for any cracks or debris that might prevent a flush seal against the machine's intake port.
