DIAGNOSIS A "tE" error code means the dryer's thermistor—the sensor that monitors exhaust air temperature—is reading something outside its normal range. It's a safety shut-off to prevent overheating.
FIX The most common cause is a restricted exhaust vent. 1. Unplug the dryer. 2. Pull it away from the wall. 3. Disconnect the flexible duct from the back of the dryer. 4. Check both the dryer's own exhaust port and your house vent for a massive lint blockage. Clean it all out thoroughly. Reconnect everything, make sure the duct isn't kinked or crushed, and plug the dryer back in. The error should clear once you run a new cycle.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The thermistor itself, which is usually a little white nub in the exhaust duct inside the dryer, could be coated in lint or have failed. You'd need to access it (often from the back panel) and clean it off. If it's damaged, it needs replacement.
HEADS UP A recurring tE error is a serious fire hazard warning. Do not ignore it or just keep resetting it. A clogged vent is the #1 cause of dryer fires, so treat this error as a critical maintenance reminder.
