my echo studio makes a loud popping or crackling sound, especially when it first powers on or when audio starts.

DIAGNOSIS This is almost always a power issue, not a speaker blow-out. The internal amplifier is getting a dirty or unstable power signal, causing it to "thump" on wake-up.

FIX Plug it directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip, surge protector, or extension cord. The Studio's high-power amp needs a clean, dedicated connection. Unplug it from the strip and plug it straight into the wall. The pop should disappear on the next wake-up.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK A software bug in the audio driver can cause this. Perform a hard reboot: unplug the power adapter from the back of the speaker for 2 full minutes. This clears cached audio data. Plug it back in and let it fully boot.

HEADS UP A single, soft pop when waking from sleep is normal. A loud, repeated crackling during playback is not. If the direct-wall-plug fix doesn't stop loud pops, contact support—it could indicate a failing power supply inside the unit.
