Diagnosis
The GE Profile UDT165SSMSS is a heavy-duty portable unit, and any instability or "wobble" is typically caused by an uneven distribution of weight across the four caster assemblies or a failure in the locking mechanism of the wheels. Because this model is designed to be moved frequently, the casters are subject to significant lateral stress. If the unit feels unstable, it is often because one of the leveling feet is not fully engaged or a caster has shifted slightly out of its mounting socket during transit or installation.
Furthermore, instability can be caused by "floor deflection." Since the UDT165SSMSS concentrates several hundred pounds of weight on four small contact points, soft vinyl or thin laminate flooring can dip, causing the unit to tilt. To confirm the source of the wobble, place a carpenter's level across the top of the unit from left to right and then front to back. If the bubble is not centered, the unit is not sitting flush, which can lead to drainage issues and excessive vibration during the high-speed spin/drain cycles.
How to Fix It
To stabilize the unit and eliminate the wobble, follow these precise steps to calibrate the base and lock the movement:
- Clear the area around the base of the dishwasher. Gently tilt the unit back using the handle or the top edge to inspect the four caster wheels.
- Check the caster mounts. Ensure that the metal stem of each wheel is fully inserted into the chassis socket. If a caster is protruding at an angle, apply firm downward pressure to seat it completely.
- Engage the locking tabs. On the UDT165SSMSS, the casters feature a locking lever. Flip the lever to the "Locked" position on at least two of the wheels (preferably the rear ones) to prevent the unit from drifting during the wash cycle.
- Adjust the leveling legs. If the unit still rocks, locate the adjustable leveling feet located adjacent to the casters. Rotate these feet clockwise to extend them until they make firm contact with the floor.
- Perform a "push test." Apply pressure to the top corners of the machine. If it still rocks, adjust the opposite leveling foot by 1/4 turn until the unit remains stationary.
- Verify the gap. Ensure there is no packing foam or cardboard remnants trapped under the base frame that may have been missed during unboxing.
If That Didn't Work
- Install Caster Pads: If you are operating the unit on a soft surface like linoleum or thin carpet, the wheels will sink unevenly. Purchase heavy-duty rubber caster cups or a reinforced plastic floor mat to distribute the weight of the UDT165SSMSS across a larger surface area.
- Inspect Caster Hardware: Check for a bent caster stem. If one wheel is visibly skewed or doesn't rotate freely, the internal spring or bearing may have failed. You will need to replace the damaged caster assembly to ensure the unit sits level.
- Verify Floor Level: Use a level on the floor itself. If the floor has a significant slope, the unit will never feel stable. Use plastic shims (specifically 1/8" or 1/4" thickness) under the leveling feet to compensate for the floor's gradient.
- Check Loading Balance: Ensure you aren't overloading one side of the dishwasher with heavy cast iron pots while the other side is empty. An unbalanced load can cause the unit to lean during the agitation phase of the cycle.

- Lock Before Use: Always engage the wheel locks before starting a cycle. The vibrations from the pump and spray arms can cause a portable unit to "walk" across the kitchen floor if not locked.
- Avoid Over-Tightening: Do not over-extend the leveling feet to the point where they are nearly detached from the base, as this creates a pivot point that increases instability.
- Caster Maintenance: Periodically clear hair, dust, and debris from the wheel axles. Debris buildup can prevent a wheel from touching the floor, creating a phantom wobble.
