my hp laserjet m234dwe is printing really faint, even with a new toner cartridge

— asked by Drew

Faint prints indicate a print density issue, often related to paper type or a needed internal cleaning.

  1. First, use paper that meets HP specifications for laser printers. It must be of good quality, free of dust, and not designed for inkjet use. Smooth paper yields better results.
  2. Run the cartridge cleaning utility. Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS). Navigate to System > Service. In the Cartridge Cleaning Mode area, click Start.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The problem may be residual contamination. Run the fuser cleaning cycle. In the same EWS menu (System > Service), in the Fuser Cleaning mode area, click Start to print a cleaning page.

HEADS UP: Do not use paper that has been previously printed on, contains metallic material, or is too rough. This directly causes poor print quality.
