This occurs when the internal copper contacts of the momentary switch oxidize or accumulate microscopic debris, preventing a clean circuit closure. In some cases, this is caused by "contact bounce," where the mechanical spring inside the button fails to hold the connection firmly against the terminal. Because the KHBV53 is often used near liquids, microscopic moisture or salt spray from cooking can penetrate the housing and create a thin layer of corrosion on the switch terminals. This disrupts the low-voltage signal to the LED while the higher-voltage path to the motor remains marginally functional, resulting in the visual flicker you see when applying pressure to the trigger.
How to Fix It
To resolve a flickering indicator light caused by contact oxidation, follow these precise steps to clear the switch mechanism:
- Completely unplug the hand blender from the wall outlet to ensure no current is flowing to the control board.
- Remove the 8" blending arm and the blending jar to reduce the weight and allow for a better grip on the motor body.
- Locate the primary power trigger. Using your thumb, apply firm, rapid pressure to the button. Press and release the button quickly and decisively 30 to 50 times. Do not hold the button down; the goal is to "scrub" the internal contacts through rapid mechanical action.
- While continuing to press the button, gently shake the unit or tap the side of the housing near the switch to dislodge any trapped particulates.
- If you have access to a can of compressed air or electronic contact cleaner (such as DeoxIT), spray a small amount into the gap around the power button trigger.
- Wait 60 seconds for any solvent to evaporate fully.
- Plug the unit back into a known-working GFCI outlet and test the trigger. The light should now remain solid upon depression.
If That Didn't Work
