Diagnosis
The most common cause for a completely dead new Craftsman CMEPW1900 is a tripped Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) on its power cord. This safety device can trip during initial setup or if it senses even a minor electrical irregularity, cutting all power to the washer and leaving it silent.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the pressure washer from the wall outlet.
- Find the small, rectangular GFCI box on the pressure washer's own power cord, near the plug end.
- Firmly press the red "RESET" button. You should feel and hear a distinct click, and a green indicator light will turn on.
- While the GFCI light is green, plug the cord directly into a dedicated, grounded 120V wall outlet (on a circuit with no other high-draw appliances).
- Turn the pressure washer's power switch to "ON" (I), then squeeze the trigger gun to start the motor.
If That Didn't Work
- Verify power at the outlet by testing it with another device like a lamp.
- Check your home's main electrical panel for a tripped 15-amp or 20-amp circuit breaker for that outlet and reset it.
- If the GFCI won't reset or trips again immediately, ensure the unit's power switch is in the "OFF" (O) position before resetting. Persistent tripping indicates a fault; contact Craftsman support.
- Inspect the trigger gun safety lock to ensure it is fully disengaged, allowing the trigger to be pulled completely.
Heads Up
Never use an extension cord with this model, as voltage drop can cause the GFCI to trip or damage the motor. Always connect to a GFCI-protected wall outlet for secondary safety. If the unit was stored in freezing temperatures, internal water damage may have occurred—allow it to thaw completely in a warm area before attempting to use or troubleshoot.
