my orbi 6e system keeps dropping devices, especially my phones and smart home stuff, every few hours.

DIAGNOSIS This is usually the "Smart Connect" feature getting confused. It's trying to automatically move your devices between the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands for optimal speed, but some older devices don't handle the handoff well and get booted.

FIX Log into the Orbi app or web interface. Go to Advanced > Wireless Settings. You'll see an option for Enable Smart Connect. Turn it OFF. This will split your WiFi into separate networks (like YourNetwork_2.4G, YourNetwork_5G). Reconnect your problematic devices to the 2.4GHz network specifically. It's more stable for smart home gadgets.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK There's a known issue with certain firmware versions causing instability. Check for a firmware update in the Orbi app under Settings > Router Settings > Firmware Update. If an update is available, install it, then reboot the whole system (unplug router and satellites for 30 seconds).

HEADS UP After disabling Smart Connect, you'll have to manually choose the right network for each device. For most stationary smart home devices, always use the 2.4GHz one. Your phone and laptop can use the 5GHz or 6GHz for faster speed.
