my tr8620a just shows 'error 6000' on the screen and won't print anything, what is this?

— asked by Alex

DIAGNOSIS The printer has detected a paper feed error. The most likely cause is a foreign object or a piece of torn paper jammed in the paper feed assembly.

FIX Power off and unplug the printer. Open the rear cover. Remove the paper cassette. Visually inspect the paper path from the rear to the front. Remove any debris or torn paper fragments. Reinsert the cassette and close the rear cover. Plug in and power on.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The error can also be triggered by a faulty feed roller encoder strip or sensor. Clean the transparent plastic encoder strip inside the printer with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid.

HEADS UP The error 6000 will not clear until the printer is power-cycled after removing the obstruction. Ensure the rear cover is fully latched closed after inspection.
