Because the laser cannot penetrate this debris, that specific vertical strip of the drum remains uncharged, resulting in a crisp, white vertical line where no toner adheres to the page. You can confirm this is a laser window issue rather than a drum failure by checking the location of the streak. If the white line appears in the exact same horizontal position on every single page, regardless of the content, and the line is perfectly straight from top to bottom, it is almost certainly debris on the scanner window. If the line were jagged or accompanied by black smudges, it would indicate a scratched drum or a failing corona wire.

How to Fix It

To clear the laser scanner window and restore full print density, follow these precise steps:

1. Power off the printer and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet to avoid any electrical discharge during cleaning.
2. Open the front cover of the printer.
3. Grasp the handle of the toner cartridge/drum unit assembly and pull it straight out of the machine. Set the assembly aside on a clean piece of paper to avoid toner spills.
4. Reach inside the printer cavity and look at the very back wall, just above where the drum unit sits. You will see a thin, transparent glass strip running horizontally from the left side to the right side of the machine. This is the laser scanner window.
5. Using a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth or a clean cotton swab (Q-tip), gently wipe the entire length of the glass strip. Move from left to right in one continuous motion to ensure no debris is pushed into the corners.

• Perform a Hard Reset: In rare cases, a glitch in the laser mirror timing can cause skipping. Unplug the machine for 60 seconds, hold the power button for 10 seconds while unplugged to drain capacitors, and restart.
