The flashing red filter light on the PuroAir 240 is not a sensor-based alert that detects air quality or filter cleanliness in real-time. Instead, it is a simple timer-based countdown. The internal circuitry tracks the total number of operational hours; once that timer hits zero, the red LED triggers to notify you that the filter has likely reached its maximum capacity. Because the PuroAir 240 does not utilize an RFID chip or an electronic sensor to "detect" the physical presence of a new filter, the machine has no way of knowing that you have physically swapped the old HEPA filter for a new one. The red light will continue to flash indefinitely until the internal timer is manually zeroed out through a specific button sequence on the control panel. If the light is flashing despite a new installation, it simply means the "Filter Life" memory is still storing the data from the previous filter's cycle.
How to Fix It
To clear the alert and reset the operational timer for your new filter, follow these precise steps:
- Ensure the unit is plugged into a grounded 120V outlet and powered on. The unit must be active for the reset command to register.
- Verify that you have removed the clear plastic vacuum-seal wrap from the new HEPA filter. If the plastic is still on, the unit may struggle with airflow, though the light will still flash until reset.
- Locate the "Filter Reset" button on the top control panel. Depending on your specific batch of the 240 model, this may be a dedicated button or a secondary function of the Power/Fan button.
- Press and hold the Filter Reset button firmly for a full 3 to 5 seconds. Do not just tap the button; you must maintain constant pressure.
- Watch the indicator light. Once the red flashing stops and the light either turns off or changes to a steady white/green (depending on your specific LED version), release the button.
- Cycle the fan speed from Low to High and back to Low to ensure the control board has fully refreshed its status.
