The connection failure between the PuroAir 240 and the mobile application is almost always rooted in a frequency mismatch between your router and the device's wireless chipset. The PuroAir 240 is engineered exclusively for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi bands. Modern "Mesh" routers or "Smart Connect" routers often combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz into a single SSID (network name). When your smartphone is connected to the 5GHz band for speed, the app attempts to pass those 5GHz credentials to the purifier, which the hardware cannot physically process, resulting in a "Device Not Found" or "Connection Timed Out" error. Beyond frequency, the pairing process relies on a "handshake" involving Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and GPS location data. If your smartphone's operating system has restricted background location access or Bluetooth permissions for the app, the app cannot "see" the broadcast signal from the purifier even if it is sitting directly next to it. You can confirm this by checking if the Wi-Fi indicator light on the PuroAir 240 is blinking rapidly; if it is not blinking, the device is not in pairing mode and will remain invisible to the app.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to force a successful handshake between the device and your network:
- Reset Pairing Mode: Press and hold the power/Wi-Fi button on the PuroAir 240 for 5-10 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator light begins to flash rapidly. This clears any previous partial connection attempts.
- Isolate the 2.4GHz Band: Access your router settings via your web browser. If you have "Smart Connect" enabled, temporarily disable it to create two separate network names (e.g., "Home_Wifi_2.4" and "Home_Wifi_5"). Connect your smartphone specifically to the 2.4GHz network.
- Enable Critical Permissions: Go to your smartphone's Settings > Apps > PuroAir App. Ensure "Location" is set to "Allow all the time" (Android) or "While Using the App" (iOS), and that "Bluetooth" and "Local Network" permissions are toggled ON.
- Positioning: Place your smartphone within 3 feet of the PuroAir 240. Ensure there are no large metal objects or microwave ovens between the purifier and the router, as these create significant signal interference.
- Execute Pairing: Open the app, select "Add Device," and enter your Wi-Fi password. Double-check that there are no special characters in your Wi-Fi password that the app might struggle to parse (though rare, some versions prefer alphanumeric passwords).
If That Didn't Work
- The Hotspot Trick: Use a second smartphone to create a mobile hotspot named exactly the same as your home Wi-Fi with the same password, but set the hotspot band specifically to 2.4GHz. Connect your primary phone to this hotspot and pair the PuroAir 240. Once paired, switch the hotspot off and move the device back to the home router; it will often retain the credentials.
- DNS Conflict: If the device connects but then drops, change your router's DNS settings to Google's Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). Some ISP-provided DNS servers block the specific ports used by the PuroAir cloud servers.
- VPN Interference: Disable any active VPNs (like NordVPN or ExpressVPN) or Ad-Blockers (like AdGuard) on your phone. These create a virtual tunnel that prevents the app from seeing local IP addresses on your home network during the discovery phase.
- Hard Power Cycle: Unplug the PuroAir 240 from the wall outlet for a full 60 seconds. This clears the internal cache of the Wi-Fi module and forces it to restart its broadcasting sequence from scratch.

- Filter Reset: Remember that the app tracks filter life based on actual runtime. If you replace the HEPA filter manually, you must reset the timer in the app or via the physical button to ensure the "Change Filter" alert doesn't persist.
