set up my pixma g7020 but it won't connect to wifi, just keeps failing

Quick answer: Yeah, this one's common. The setup wizard is finicky, especially with modern routers using combined 2.4/5GHz networks or certain security protocols like WPA3.

Diagnosis

Yeah, this one's common. The setup wizard is finicky, especially with modern routers using combined 2.4/5GHz networks or certain security protocols like WPA3.

How to Fix It

Skip the automatic push-button method. On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Device settings > LAN settings > Wireless LAN setup > Other setup > Manual connect. Then select your 2.4GHz network SSID (it doesn't support 5GHz) and enter the password using the on-screen keyboard. This direct method almost always works.

If That Didn't Work

Temporarily change your router's security to WPA2-PSK (AES) only, if it's set to WPA3 or a mixed mode. Complete the setup, then you can usually switch back. Also, ensure you're not using any special characters in the WiFi password.

Heads Up

The printer has to be on the same network as your computer/phone for discovery to work. If you have a mesh system or guest network, make sure everything's on the main 2.4GHz band.
