DIAGNOSIS An unresponsive touch panel, often with phantom beeps, is usually caused by moisture or condensation getting behind the control panel. This can happen if you wash the lid under running water and water seeps into the edges, or from heavy steam during release.
FIX Unplug the pot immediately. This is key. 1) Dry the entire outside of the pot, especially around the control panel, with a soft, dry towel. 2) Pay special attention to the seam where the plastic front meets the metal body. 3) Leave the unit unplugged in a warm, dry place for at least 24-48 hours. A gentle airflow from a fan can help. The goal is to let any internal moisture evaporate completely. After it's thoroughly dry, plug it back in and try the buttons again. They often come back to life.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If it's still unresponsive after a long dry-out, the control board may have been shorted. There's no user fix for that. You'd need to contact Instant Pot customer support for a repair or replacement.
HEADS UP Never submerge the lid or the main base unit in water. When washing the lid, avoid letting water run directly over the control panel or the area where the lid handle attaches (where wiring runs). Wipe it down with a damp cloth instead.
