DIAGNOSIS The water is getting too hot during the brew cycle. The DCC-3200's PerfecTemp system uses a thermostat and a thermal fuse to regulate temperature. A failing thermostat can cause overheating, essentially scalding the coffee.
FIX First, run multiple cleaning cycles with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water, followed by several cycles with plain water. Scale buildup on the heating element can cause erratic temperature control. If the taste persists, the issue is likely the thermostat.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The thermostat, which is integrated into the heating element assembly, is defective. It is not calibrating the water to the proper 200°F brew temperature. This requires replacement of the entire heating element/thermostat assembly.
HEADS UP Using water that is too soft or distilled can accelerate corrosion of internal components. Use filtered tap water with moderate mineral content. The burnt taste is a sign of component failure, not just a cleaning issue.
