DIAGNOSIS Unfortunately, yeah, it's a common trait with many basic aluminum stovetop pressure cookers. The handles are often made of a thermoplastic that's directly attached to the hot metal, so they conduct heat.
FIX There's no fix to make them stay cool. The workaround is to always, always use a thick, dry potholder or oven mitt when handling the cooker during or immediately after cooking. Get in the habit of having the mitt right next to the stove before you start. Never assume the handles are safe to touch.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If a handle feels *loose* or *wobbly* when hot (not just hot to the touch), that's a different issue. Turn off the heat, let it cool completely, and check the screws or rivets attaching it. A loose handle is a serious hazard.
HEADS UP This is a major burn risk, especially when moving the cooker off the heat. The lid handle gets just as hot. Use mitts for *everything*—locking, unlocking, carrying. Don't learn this lesson the hard way.
