Diagnosis
The coating is damaged. This is usually from using metal utensils, abrasive scrubbers, or high-heat dishwasher detergent.
How to Fix It
You cannot repair the coating. You must replace the basket and crisper tray. Order part number AF-10BASKET or equivalent from PowerXL. Stop using the flaking basket immediately.
If That Didn't Work
If the new basket also flakes quickly, your cleaning method is the problem. Only use soft sponges, warm soapy water, and nylon brushes. Hand wash only.
Heads Up
Ingesting flaked non-stick coating is a health hazard. Do not cook with a damaged basket. The exposed metal underneath can also rust.
