the nonstick coating on my basket is peeling off after a few months, is this safe?

— asked by Riley

DIAGNOSIS: You are using abrasive cleaning tools or sprays. Metal utensils, steel wool, or harsh dishwashing pods cause this. Also, high-heat cooking with no oil on delicate coatings accelerates wear.

FIX: Stop using it immediately if coating is flaking. Flakes will mix with food. Contact Chefman support with pictures. They often replace baskets under warranty for coating failure. For a new basket, only clean with soft sponge, warm soapy water, and a nylon brush for stuck bits.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If out of warranty, you must purchase an official replacement basket. Generic baskets may not fit or lock correctly, causing safety issues.

HEADS UP: Never use aerosol non-stick spray like Pam. It contains lecithin that bonds to the coating and carbonizes, causing sticky buildup and eventual peeling. Use a pump sprayer with pure oil.
