DIAGNOSIS The permanent mesh filter's pores are too large for a fine grind, or it's not seated correctly in the basket, allowing grounds to bypass.
FIX Use a medium-coarse grind, not a fine espresso grind. Before adding grounds, ensure the filter is clicked securely into all the tabs in the basket. When brewing, stop the cycle about halfway through, wait 30 seconds for grounds to settle, then resume. This lets the bed of coffee act as a secondary filter.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The filter might be defective or have a bent rim. Contact Ovente for a replacement. As a temporary fix, use a standard paper filter inside the reusable one to catch fines.
HEADS UP Clean the mesh filter immediately after each use with a brush under hot water. Coffee oils clog the pores over time, which can ironically then cause both sludge and slower brewing.
