This phenomenon, often called "ghost touching," is a frequent failure point on the Samsung NE63A6511SS. The range utilizes capacitive touch sensors located directly beneath the glass surface. These sensors work by detecting the electrical properties of your finger; however, they are hypersensitive to conductive contaminants. When a thin film of aerosolized grease, moisture, or cleaning residue seeps under the bezel or settles on the glass, it creates a conductive bridge that the control board interprets as a physical press. Because the board cannot distinguish between a finger and a conductive layer of grime, it triggers "phantom signals." This can result in burners cycling on and off or the oven timer starting randomly. In more severe cases, the touch-sensing membrane inside the control panel assembly has physically degraded or delaminated, causing the internal circuitry to short and trigger inputs without any external stimulus. You can confirm this is a sensor issue if the "ghosting" occurs in the same specific area of the panel regardless of whether the surface is dry.
How to Fix It
If the issue is caused by a software glitch or surface contamination, follow these steps to recalibrate and clean the system. If the board is failing, you will need to replace the entire User Interface (UI) assembly.
- Hard Power Reset: Go to your home's main electrical panel and flip the 40-amp double-pole breaker for the range to the OFF position. Leave it off for exactly five minutes. This drains the capacitors on the main control board and clears the volatile memory.
- Deep Degrease: Use a specialized glass cooktop cleaner or a mixture of isopropyl alcohol (70%) and distilled water. Apply the solution to a microfiber cloth—never spray directly onto the panel to avoid liquid seepage into the electronics. Scrub the edges where the glass meets the plastic bezel, as this is where grease accumulates and leaks inward.
- Dry Air Purge: Use a can of compressed air to blow forcefully around the perimeter of the control panel. This can help dislodge any trapped moisture or debris that has migrated under the bezel.
- Control Panel Replacement: If ghosting persists, you must replace the UI board. Unplug the range and remove the rear backguard screws. Disconnect the wiring harness from the UI board to the main power board. Remove the mounting screws securing the control panel to the chassis, swap in the new assembly (Part No: DA92-190000 series), and reassemble.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Voltage Fluctuations: If you have a multimeter, check the voltage at the terminal block. Inconsistent power or a "dirty" electrical signal from an aging breaker can cause the logic board to behave erratically. Ensure you are getting a steady 240V.
- Inspect the Main Power Board: While the touch panel is the interface, the main power board (located in the rear) processes these signals. Look for charred capacitors or "blown" solder joints on the main board. If the main board is failing, it can send incorrect voltage to the UI, mimicking a button press.
- Verify Grounding: Ensure the range is properly grounded to your home's electrical system. A floating ground can cause static buildup on the glass surface, which triggers capacitive sensors to activate spontaneously.
- Update Firmware: Contact Samsung support to see if your specific serial number is eligible for a firmware flash. Some early production runs of the NE63A series had sensitivity thresholds that were too low, which was corrected via software updates in newer models.

- Avoid Steam Cleaning: Never use a steam cleaner on the control panel. The high-pressure steam forces moisture directly into the capacitive sensors, which almost guarantees a permanent short circuit of the UI board.
- Bezel Integrity: Check the plastic bezel for cracks. Even a hairline fracture allows cooking vapors to enter the electronics housing, leading to premature board failure.
- Chemical Warning: Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners or bleach on the touch panel. These chemicals can degrade the anti-glare coating on the glass, making it more prone to grease adhesion and sensor errors.
- Safety First: If the range is turning burners on while you are away, the safest temporary solution is to keep the circuit breaker OFF when the appliance is not in use until the UI board is replaced.
