the touchscreen on my ecobee premium is totally unresponsive, can't swipe or press anything

DIAGNOSIS The capacitive touch layer has locked up, usually from a software glitch or static discharge. The screen is on, but it doesn't register input.

FIX Force a reboot.

  • Pull the thermostat display straight off its wall plate.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • Plug it back in. You'll see it reboot. This clears the touchscreen controller's memory.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Perform a full factory reset from the physical buttons.

  • Pull the display off.
  • Press and hold the physical button on the BACK of the display for about 15 seconds until all LEDs flash.
  • Release and reattach. You'll have to set it up again like new.

HEADS UP Don't use glass cleaner or any liquid directly on the screen. A microfiber cloth only. Chemicals can damage the oleophobic coating and make the touchscreen behave erratically.
