DIAGNOSIS No. This model has a simple, non-adjustable bimetallic thermostat for the warming plate. It's designed to keep coffee at a near-simmering temperature, which will inevitably scorch a small amount over 30+ minutes.
FIX You can't lower the temperature, but you can work around it. Pour the last cup of coffee into your mug within 20 minutes of the brew finishing. If you want to keep coffee warm longer without burning, transfer it to a pre-heated stainless steel thermal carafe.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the plate is getting hot enough to visibly smoke or cause the coffee to violently bubble, the thermostat is likely stuck closed (failed). In this case, the unit is unsafe and should be unplugged and replaced. The thermostat is integrated and not user-serviceable.
HEADS UP Never leave the warming plate on with an empty or nearly empty glass carafe. The concentrated heat can cause the glass to crack. Always turn the machine off (or unplug it if you've bypassed the switch) when the carafe is empty.
