there's a burning dust smell when i turn on the heat for the first time this season.

— asked by Jordan

DIAGNOSIS
Dust accumulation on the heating element inside the machine's core. This is normal after a period of disuse but must be cleared.

FIX
1. Do not use the heating function. Set the machine to 'Fan Only' mode at maximum speed.
2. Let it run for at least 2 hours in a well-ventilated room to burn off and blow out the loose dust.
3. Remove and clean the main filter as per the standard procedure.
4. After the smell dissipates on fan mode, you can test the heat function.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK
If the smell is acrid or plasticky and persists after the burn-off, a component may be faulty. Cease use immediately. This is not normal dust smell and requires service.

HEADS UP
Never use aerosol sprays, cleaners, or 'air purifier perfumes' near the machine's intake. They can coat the heating element and create a persistent, harmful smell when heated.
