Diagnosis
The Dell S2425HSM monitor has an anti-glare coating on its IPS panel that can be easily damaged by harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Fingerprints, dust, and smudges are common, but improper cleaning can degrade the coating, causing permanent clouding, discoloration, or a peeling effect.
How to Fix It
- Power down the monitor and disconnect it from the electrical outlet. This prevents electrical hazards and makes smudges more visible.
- Use a dry, soft, lint-free microfiber cloth (like those for eyeglasses or camera lenses) to gently remove any loose dust with light, circular motions.
- For stubborn marks, lightly dampen a second microfiber cloth with distilled water or a monitor-specific cleaning solution. Wring it out thoroughly so it is only slightly damp—never wet.
- Gently wipe the screen in a slow, circular motion, starting from the center and moving outward. Avoid excessive pressure.
- Use the dry section of your cloth to immediately buff the screen streak-free.
- For the monitor's plastic chassis, you can use the same damp cloth, ensuring no moisture drips into the vents or ports.
If That Didn't Work
For persistent, dried-on spots, you can use a small amount of a 50/50 mixture of distilled white vinegar and distilled water applied sparingly to your cloth, not the screen. Test this on a small, inconspicuous corner of the bezel first. Commercial screen cleaners labeled as safe for anti-glare coatings can also be used, but always spray the solution onto the cloth, never directly onto the monitor.
Heads Up
Never use window cleaners, isopropyl alcohol, ammonia-based products, acetone, paper towels, or rough fabrics. These will permanently damage the anti-glare coating and void your warranty. Avoid pressing on the screen itself or using compressed air, which can force dust behind the panel.
